End of March 2007 - The Tsunami Education Project in Sri Lanka is completed.
From March 2006 to March 2007 the TEP Team carried out 148 geography workshops at the Tsunami-affected South and East Coast of Sri Lanka.
During that period three local experts have been successfully trained, almost 4.000 participants (mostly teachers) joined the TEP workshops and more than 350 new sets of geography educational material have been distributed to schools.

March 8th, 2007 - The TEP Team completed its last geography workshops and trained 288 future teachers of the Governmental Teachers Training College and the National College of Education in Addalachenai (Ampara District).
March 2nd, 2007 - The TEP Team completed the geography workshops for the teachers of all Junior, O-Level and A-Level Schools in the Kalmunai Muslim and Kalmunai Tamil Divisions (Ampara District).
During the last two week 560 teachers from 19 tsunami affected schools have been trained and 40 sets of new educational material have been distributed.

February 21st, 2007 - The TEP Team hold a geography workshop for lecturers and students of the geology department of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka in Sammanthurai (Ampara District) and equiped the department with new educational material.
February 19th, 2007 - The TEP Team started to carry out geography workshops for teachers of Junior-, O-Level- and A-Level-Schools in the Kalmunai Muslim Division and Kalmunai Tamil Division (both Ampara District), which will be the last divisions of the project.
February 14th, 2007 - The TEP Team started their cooperation with the Divisional Education Offices in the Kalmunai Muslim and Tamil Divisions (Ampara District). On February 19th, 2007 the TEP will start workshops for the tsunami affected schools in those two divisions.
February 14th, 2007 - The TEP Team completed the geography workshops for the teachers of all Junior, O-Level and A-Level Schools in the Ninthavur, Karaitivu and Sainthamarathu Divisions (Ampara District).
During the last two week 337 teachers from 18 tsunami affected schools have been trained and 37 sets of new educational material have been distributed.
February 5th, 2007 - The new TEP local expert Mr. Jaleel carried out the first workshop on his own in front of teachers in the Karaitivu Division (Ampara District).

January 30th, 2007 - TEP Team started to carry out geography workshops for teachers of Junior-, O-Level- and A-Level-Schools in the Ninthavur, Karaitivu and Sainthamarathu Divisions (Ampara District).
January 26th, 2007 - TEP Team completed the geography workshops for the teachers of all Junior-Schools in the Akkaraipattu Division (Ampara District). During the last week 115 teachers from 8 tsunami affected schools have been trained and 16 sets of new educational material have been distributed.
The TEP Team selected another local expert for 2007 (Mr. A. Jaleel). Mr. Jaleel is also geologist from the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.

January 24th, 2007 - TEP Team hold a geography workshop for all 45 Teacher Advisors of the Educational Zone Akkaraipattu (Ampara District). Teacher Advisors in Sri Lanka are responsible for the implementation of new teaching methods and topics in schools.
January 23rd, 2007 - TEP Team started to carry out workshops for Junior-School-Teachers in the Akkaraipattu Division (Ampara District). In 2006 the TEP Team was only able to cover the O-Level- and A-Level-Schools in that division.
January 22nd, 2007 - TEP Team completed the geography workshops in the Pottuvil Division (Ampara District). During the past two weeks the TEP Team reached more than 130 teachers from 18 tsunami affected schools in that division. Also 26 sets of new geography educational material have been distributed to those schools.
January 17th, 2007 - TEP Team started to evaluate, how the teachers of the schools in Ampara, who participated in TEP Workshops in 2006 are using the new educational materials. Those materials were distributed to the schools after they joined the workshop.

January 16th, 2007 - TEP local expert Mr. Rislan carried out the first workshop on his own in front of A-Level and O-Level teachers in the Pottuvil Division (Ampara District).
January 9th, 2007 - The TEP started geography workshops for teachers of the tsunami affected schools in the Pottuvil Division (Ampara District).
January 8th, 2007 - The TEP Team selected the second local expert for 2007 (Mr. M. F. Mohamed Rislan) in cooperation with the South Eastern University in Sri Lanka. Mr. Rislan is geologist and will support the TEP in running geography workshops in the Ampara District.
December 17th, 2006 - The TEP built up a cooperation with the coordinator of the Geology Department of the South Eastern University in Sammanthurai, Mr. Balasooriya. The South Eastern University will select geology graduates, who will apply to work as local experts inside the TEP. The cooperation will start beginning of January 2007.
December 11th, 2006 - TEP local expert Mr. Vasanthanrajah carried out the first workshop on his own in front of the staff of the local NGO ABRO in Pottuvil. Furthermore the TEP continues to carry out workshops for local staff of NGOs in the Ampara District.
December 6th, 2006 - The TEP Team hold two workshops for the local staff of the NGO SWOAD (Social Welfare Organisation for Ampara District) in Akkaraipatthu.

December 1st, 2006 - The TEP Team hold one of their geography workshops for the international and local staff of HELP from Germany in the HELP field office in Ampara (see photo above).
November 30th, 2006 - The Zonal Education Offices in Akkaraipatthu and Kalmunai gave the official permission to the TEP to run geography workshops in the related educational zones with all teachers in the attached divisions.
November 24th, 2006 - The TEP selected the first local expert for 2006/2007 (Mr. Vasanthanrajah) in cooperation with the Eastern University in Sri Lanka. Mr. Vasantharajah is geographer and will support the TEP in running geography workshops in the Ampara District.
November 22nd, 2006 - The TEP established the cooperation with the Divisional Education Officer (DEO) in the Pottuvil Division (Ampara District) and will start to run workshop in that division in January 2007.

November 20th, 2006 - The TEP built up a cooperation with the head of the Geography Department of the Eastern University in Sri Lanka (near Batticaloa) Ms. Ponniah. The TEP will select two geography graduates of the Eastern University to employ them as local experts inside the TEP.
November 8th, 2006 - The TEP Team arrived inside their project area in the Ampara District at the east coast of Sri Lanka (Impressions of Ampara Town - click here).
November 1st 2006 - The TEP Team arrived in Sri Lanka and started to implement the TEP 2006/2007.

October 21st, 2006 - TEP Project Managers Sandra Laskowski & Thorsten Klose held a lecture in Wittstock (Germany) in cooperation with the Encourager-Foundation. This foundation is one partner of the TEP in Sri Lanka.

October 19th, 2006 - TEP Project Managers Sandra Laskowski & Thorsten Klose held a geography workshop for members of Aktion Deutschland Hilft (Combined Help from Germany - ADH) in the ADH main office in Bonn (Germany).
October 13th, 2006 - The TEP 2006/2007 will start on November 1st, 2006 at the east coast of Sri Lanka.
September 8th, 2006 - TEP 2006 completed its work in Sri Lanka. During the past six months more than 80 geography workshops were held at the tsunami affected east and south coast. Almost 2.300 people (mainly teachers of tsunami affected schools and tsunami affected families) joined those workshops. Two local experts were successfully trained at the south coast and more than 150 sets of new educational geography materials were distributed to schools in the project area.
In November 2006 the so called TEP 2006/2007 will start and will train local experts also at the east coast and continue this kind of important teacher training.
September 6th, 2006 - TEP completed work in the tsunami affected schools in the Habaraduwa Division (Galle District) and Weligama Division (Matara District). During 12 workshops TEP reached 210 teachers from Junior-, O-Level and A-Level schools in that divisions.

September 1st, 2006 - TEP completed work in the tsunami affected schools in the Galle Division (Galle District). During 10 workshops TEP reached more than 270 teachers and students from Junior-, O-Level and A-Level schools in that division.

August 28rd, 2006 - Beside workshops in Junior-, O-Level and A-Level schools, TEP is also carrying out workshops for tsunami-affected families and children in different projects of the German NGO "FRIENDS - Kinderhilfe International e.V." The photo shows a workshop-group in a FRIENDS-project in Kosgoda (Galle District).

August 11th, 2006 - Mr. Daniel Rahn is making a practical training on a voluntary base inside the TEP. He is studying English at the Ruhr-University in Bochum to become a teacher. The practical training started end of July 2006 and will finish end of August 2006.
August 10th, 2006 - HELP from Germany prolonged the TEP 2006 into a TEP 2006/07 in Sri Lanka. It will start in November 2006 and end in March 2007. The TEP 2006/07 will be carried out by Thorsten Klose & Sandra Laskowski. The main project area will be the Ampara District. One of the objectives will be to train local geography experts also at the east coast.


July 26th, 2006 - Two local experts joined Tsunami Education Project. They both are graduates of Geography Department of the University of Ruhuna. During the beginning stage of their work they will interpret workshops from English to Singhala in order to get trained to do TEP workshops on their own later.
July 25th, 2006 - TEP Team continues workshops in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka and is cooperating closely with the Divisional Education Offices in the Galle District.
July 14th, 2006 - TEP Team completed work in Ampara District. Last workshop for the teachers was held at Sri Ramakrishna College in Alayadivembu division. During 5 weeks in Ampara District TEP reached more than 1000 people with workshops explaining reasons for Tsunamis and Earthquakes. Project will now be continued in Galle District with the first two workshops on July 17th.

July 3rd, 2006 - TEP Team started workshops in schools of Alayadivembu, Akkaraipaththu and Addalaichenai Divisions. It is planned to run more than 20 workshops in this area during July 2006.
June 30th, 2006 - In June 2006 the TEP Team hold 19 geography workshops in teachers training colleges, schools and inside tsunami affected communities at the south and east coast. More than 520 participants were reached during that workshops and 50 new sets of educational materials were distributed mainly to schools.

June 21st, 2006 - TEP Team handed over geography sets to all 21 schools of Thirukkovil Division. Geography set developed by TEP includes comprehensive education material to be used in schools in order to explain reasons of earthquakes and tsunamis. Five A1 size maps, one puzzle type map and information handouts along with geography world globe were handed over to principals of schools just after the workshop.
June 21st, 2006 - TEP met the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in Sri Lanka, Mr. Gamini Samaranayake, who agreed in cooperation in the future.
June 20th, 2006 - TEP Team started geography workshops for the teachers of schools in Thirukkovil Division (Ampara District). TEP also hold workshop for the local staff of HELP from Germany in the HELP Office in Thirukkovil.
June 20th, 2006 - TEP Team hold geography workshop in the Pathirajagama Camp (Sunil´s Friends Project) in the Galle District, reaching 40 tsunami affected children.
June 19th, 2006 - TEP Team started geography workshops for the teachers of schools in the Balapithiya Division (Galle District).
June 6th, 2006 - TEP Team selected two local experts for the project at the University of Ruhuna (Matara). The local experts are geography graduates and will work inside TEP from mid of July 2006.
June 5th, 2006 - The TEP Team made the first workshops for teachers from schools across Sri Lanka at Teachers Training College in Maharagama. After workshops TEP distributed educational materials to geography and social science teachers. See photos here.
June 1st, 2006 - The TEP Team moved into their new office in Ambalangoda (south coast) after they had to change their project area. The German NGO Sunil´s Friends kindly is providing this new office rooms for TEP in Ambalangoda.
May 28th, 2006 - TEP set dates for geography workshops 2006 in the Ampara District. Therefore TEP will cooperate with different Divisional Education Offices (DEOs) in the district. Workshops will start on June 19th, 2006.
May 23rd, 2006 - TEP arranged cooperation with the Geography Department of the University of Ruhuna (Matara District) and will select graduates as local experts for the TEP Team.
May 22nd, 2006 - TEP arranged cooperation with the Teachers Training College in Maharagama (Colombo District) and will run geography workshops with Social Studies and Geography teachers in that college in beginning of June 2006.

May 10th, 2006 - TEP got official permission from the Southern Provincial Department of Education to run geography workshops in all southern province of Sri Lanka - Galle District, Matara District and Hambantota District.
May 3rd, 2006 - TEP got official permissions from Zonal Education Offices in Ampara and Akkaraipattu (Ampara District) to run geography workshops at O-level and A-level schools in the Ampara District of Sri Lanka.
April 10th, 2006 - Photo exhibition of J. Kirpitis and T. Klose about Ambalangoda Housing Project in Sri Lanka was exhibited in the St. Nicolai Church in the city of Lüneburg (Germany). Exhibition will remain there till the beginning of May.
April 7th, 2006 - TEP got official permission from Zonal Education Office of Trincomalee to run geography workshops at O-level and A-level schools in the Trincomalee District of Sri Lanka.
