March 10th, 2006 - New TEP (Tsunami Education Project) logo is introduced and will be used in the future.


March 3rd, 2006 - Photo exhibition part about the GLEN special project in Sri Lanka in 2005 was delivered to the office of the ASA Program of InWEnt (International Capacity Building Germany) in Berlin. During the next weeks ASA will organize an exhibition location in Berlin.

March 1st, 2006 - Thorsten Klose (GLEN Team 2005) hold lecture in front of the Local Agenda 21 Board in Bochum about the Ambalangoda Housing Project in Sri Lanka.

February 28th, 2006 - Photo exhibition part about Ambalangoda Housing Project in Sri Lanka was delivered to city of Lüneburg, which is financing this project among Leipzig and Bochum. This exhibition will be shown on April 3rd, 2006 in the Ritterakademie in Lüneburg and then in the city hall of Lüneburg.

February 22nd, 2006 - Two participants (one German & one Latvian) for the GLEN Project 2006 in Sri Lanka were selected. Because of difficult security situation at the east coast, this project will be run at the west coast in cooperation with NGO Sunil´s Friends - Find new project description here.

February 9th, 2006 - Tsunami Education Project (TEP) 2006 will be realized in cooperation with HELP e.V. in Sri Lanka. This new project will start on March 22nd, 2006. Main project area will be Trincomalee District at the east coast. February 7th, 2006 - Thorsten Klose (GLEN), Claudia Stroppel (German Federal Agency for Technical Relief, THW) and Dr. Richard Munz (International Red Cross) took part in a discussion forum about the Ambalangoda Housing Project of Lüneburg, Leipzig and Bochum in Sri Lanka and about relief activities in general. The event was organized by and took place in the cultural center "Bahnhof Langendreer" in Bochum. 

February 3rd, 2006 - Thorsten Klose hold lecture in Christuschurch of Bochum about GLEN activities in Sri Lanka in 2005. This event was organized by the Green party of Bochum.

February 2nd, 2006 - Janis Kirpitis was appointed as a Head of Latvian Mission in Sri Lanka. Main goal of mission which will start in March 2006 is to organize a tsunami relief project to restore the infrastructure of schools in the west coastal area of Sri Lanka. Mission will be financed by the donations of Latvian people which were contributed in the beginning of the year 2005 shortly after the tsunami in the Indian ocean.

February 2nd, 2006 - J. Kirpitis and T. Klose took part in reception in honour of Independence Day of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Riga. Reception was organized by Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Latvia Mr. Arnis Ancupans. Part of photo exhibition "Tsunami is not over yet" was exhibited in Radisson SAS Daugava Hotel during event.

January 30th, 2006 - Photo exhibition in Bochum closed on January 27th, 2006. During the past three weeks about 4.000 people visited the exhibition in the head office of the bank "Sparkasse Bochum". The exhibition will now travel to Riga (Latvia), Lüneburg & Berlin (Germany) - further information coming soon!

January 13th, 2006 - Press briefing to announce opening of photo exhibition was held together with mayor of Bochum Dr. Ottilie Scholz and chief of "Sparkasse Bochum" Volker Goldmann.



January 9th, 2006 - Photo exhibition of J. Kirpitis and T. Klose was installed and opened today in Bochum, Germany. Exhibition which is named "Tsunami is not over yet" is located in the main hall of "Sparkasse Bochum", Dr. Ruer Platz, Bochum. Entrance is free to all publics on working days from 9:00 - 16:00. Exhibition will stay in Bochum till January 27th.

January 3rd, 2006 - J. Kirpitis visited photo exhibition "A Year After Tsunami - Work of PHO (Polish Humanitarian Organization) for the People of Sri Lanka" in Warsaw (Poland). Exhibition included few photos of A. Ferenc made during GLEN project in 2005.

December 29th, 2005 - All interested people in Latvia and Germany can still apply at local organizations - "ASA Program" in Germany and "GLEN Latvia" in Latvia for participation in GLEN project in Sri Lanka in 2006. This project was recently proposed by T. Klose, J. Kirpitis and A. Ferenc. Additional information can be found at GLEN Europe webpage www.glen-europe.org.


December 17th, 2005 - Janis Kirpitis and Thorsten Klose visited the exhibition "After the tsunami desaster" in Bonn, which was organized by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.

December 16th, 2005 - Janis Kirpitis and Thorsten Klose hold common press conference with mayor of city of Bochum Mrs. Dr. Scholz about Ambalangoda Housing Project and GLEN photo exhibition. The press conference took place in the city hall of Bochum (Germany). See photos from event here.

December 13th, 2005 - Agata Ferenc left Poland and returned to Sri Lanka. She will work for the Polish Humanitarian Organization - Sri Lanka mission for the next 9 months.

December 12th, 2005 - Thorsten Klose signed agreement with city of Bochum (Germany) about financial support for the photo exhibition about the GLEN project 2005.

The exhibition will be dsiplayed in the head office of the bank "Sparkasse Bochum". It will take place from January 9th, 2006 till January 27th, 2006. Topic of the exhibition will be "Tsunami is not over yet" and will describe the fear of affected people in Sri Lanka about new tsunamis.

December 10th, 2005 - Janis Kirpitis left Sri Lanka and went home to Latvia. The GLEN experts are now planning a photo exhibition in Germany and Latvia to show their expierences and impressions.

December 7th, 2005 - Janis Kirpitis visited Ambalangoda housing project implemented by THW (German Federal Agency of Technical Relief) to see the latest progress.

November 30th, 2005 - Janis Kirpitis made last geography workshop within "Tsunami Relief - Support and Report" project in school in Akkaraipaththu area.

November 17th, 2005 - Thorsten Klose completed his geography workshops for 2005 and went home to Germany.

November 15th, 2005 - GLEN project participants visited Ambalangoda to monitor the progress of housing project for tsunami victims runned by THW (German Federal Agency of Technical Relief). The purpose of visit was to collect information for 2nd report to city of Bochum in Germany which is one of the donors of this project

November 10th, 2005 - Two geography workshops were held in Pottuvil on November 9th and 10th for teachers of the schools of this town. 49 teachers of Pottuvil were reached during 2 days.

November 4th, 2005 - Our project proposal "Tsunami recovery through education" was accepted by GLEN and 2 people will come to Sri Lanka in 2006 to run geography workshops and activities with children in transitional camps. October 26th, 2005 - Agata Ferenc completed her project activities and left home to Poland
